Having met almost 30 years ago to start analysing the first bacterial genomes, Dr Nigel Saunders and Dr John Peden reunited to develop cutting -edge strategies to increase the utility of pathogen genomics.  Their collective experience are what puts Genpax at the forefront of ....

Dr. Nigel Saunders is the Chief Scientific Officer and co-founder of Genpax. He received a Wellcome Trust Fellowship in Medical Microbiology, spending six years as part of the Molecular Infectious Diseases group at Oxford. There, he collaborated with Dr. John Peden to analyze some of the first bacterial genomes. Together, they sequenced Neisseria meningitidis, contributing to the development of a new meningitis vaccine.

Nigel later established the pathogen functional genomics division at Oxford’s Dunn School, where he spent 11 years leading various genomics projects. During this period, he identified limitations in traditional pathogen bioinformatics, which he found to be error-prone and inadequate for accurately determining bacterial behavior. To address these challenges, Nigel accepted the role of Interdisciplinary Chair of Systems and Synthetic Biology at Brunel University. There, he focused on developing advanced bioinformatics capabilities tailored for precision engineering.

Over the following years, Nigel designed and tested solutions for more accurate bioinformatics, laying the groundwork for a novel approach to pathogen clinical genomics.

John is one of the World's leading bioinformaticians.... Until recently, John was Senior Staff Bioinformatician at Illumina, a global leader in genomics, having spent over ten years with the firm.   Previously, he was a Senior Bioinformatician at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, and before that, he was a Manager at Oxford University's Bioinformatics Centre.
