Grant Application for IDEM Technology Access

Platform overview

The Genpax IDEM platform offers advanced analytics for bacterial whole genome sequencing (WGS) data.

Key features include:

  • Enhanced infection control: Accurately identify transmission events, distinguishing between hospital-acquired infections and community-acquired ones.

  • User-friendly dashboards: Intuitive dashboards displaying quality metrics, transmission inference, AMR, and virulence gene data.

  • Rapid, accurate and scalable analysis: Fast, scalable processing of Illumina WGS FASTQ files, maintaining comprehensive genomic coverage for high resolution analytics that is complemented with near-zero SNP errors. This high resolution and accuracy are vital for correctly identifying transmission chains and outbreaks, providing IPC teams with confidence in their next steps.

  • Comprehensive pathogen coverage: Initially supporting over forty bacterial species, with plans to expand to over one hundred by the end of the year.

Application guidance

To ensure projects are effective, please refer to the list of available bacteria on the IDEM platform at the time of your application. We encourage applicants to focus on one species with new sample analysis within a specific geography, such as a hospital, to gain transmission insights. If you have historic FASTQ data from the last 2 years or believe that analysing more than 100 samples will provide important insights for your project, we will consider these proposals. If you’d like assistance in developing your ideas, please contact us so that together we can design a proactive project that suits your needs.

Terms and conditions for the award

  1. Eligibility: Open to UK researchers in hospitals and sites involved in translational evidence generation under one health pillars including human, animal welfare, food, and ecosystems.

  2. Platform requirements: Illumina WGS FASTQ files are required. If you possess DNA from culture isolates but lack access to an Illumina platform, please indicate this requirement within your application. We can facilitate this service at an exclusive cost of £45 per isolate for batches of 96 or more and £65 for fewer samples, excluding sample shipment to our UK provider.

  3. Sample analysis: Bacterial isolate WGS FASTQ files for up to one hundred samples will be analysed at no cost on the IDEM platform. Additional samples may be considered pending project justification. The grant includes training and setup of the IDEM platform for up to 2 users.

  4. Application review: Applications will be reviewed by Genpax’s CSO, CMO, and advisors Professor David Livermore and Professor Jon Cohen.

  5. Data sharing: Awardees must agree to share their findings with Genpax.

  6. Intellectual property: The intellectual property of the data and findings remains with the investigator, but Genpax retains the right to use anonymised data for marketing and improvement purposes.

  7. Feedback: Awardees must provide feedback on the analysis and overall experience.

  8. Publicity: By accepting the award, recipients agree to publicly announce their win and share their intended use of the analysis. They also commit to providing testimonials about the effectiveness of the sampling, where applicable

  9. Publication: If the data proves valuable, awardees must obtain Genpax’s approval for any material intended for publication and acknowledge Genpax’s contribution.

  10. Account setup: As part of the setup, awardees will setup Genpax as a supplier. This account will grant access to an exclusive price with a 30% discount or £70 per analysis for any future work beyond the initial one hundred samples. Invoices will be sent monthly, covering all activities from the previous month. If there is no activity, no invoice will be issued. Stated prices do not include VAT.

  11. Data availability: Data generation must complete within 6 months of award.
